JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Strives to Address the Series' Biggest Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution isn't exactly an original movie. Rather, the latest cinematic release from the Jujutsu Kaisen fantasy saga is a compilation of the anime's second season stitched together with the first two episodes of its third season, which kicks off the Culling Games arc from the source material. This positions Execution, which has been given a new trailer, the earliest way to see the start of the next season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The feature launches in Japan on Nov. 7, and in North America on Dec. 5.

The Culling Games Arc

In the Culling Games storyline, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu finally joins the anime series and is charged by jujutsu higher-ups to take down his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight takes place for the first time on the cinema screen, and if the animation team at the production house have something as special as the two-part Thunderclap episodes in store for audiences this end-of-year period, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may turn out to be the surprise that everyone has hoped for.

The "Thunderclap" Controversy

"Thunderclap" from season two is widely regarded as a top-tier scene in the history of anime, despite all the controversy in last year when the episodes first debuted. It was reported that the artists were facing crunch conditions to the point, and the final version that aired at the time was incomplete and allegedly not what the team first envisioned.

The Intense Confrontation

The sequence showcases a long-awaited battle between two elite magic wielders, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It features innovative art style, excellent direction, and intense action. A subsequent home video edition provided an opportunity to insert new moments to flesh out the conflict. So it was plausible Execution could improve the battle even more. However, examining the recent teaser, it's hard to tell if that confrontation has been given extra attention. It'd be a shame if it didn't, because a sequence that grand has to be experienced on the biggest screen with the finest quality available.

The Second Season's Triumph

The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen propelled the series to become the top anime of the year, and when episodes 40 and 41 were aired consecutively, it was the topic of conversation for weeks in the series' fanbase. Fans had heard of the issues behind the scenes, which made them appreciate what they viewed even more. People clamored to see if the disc version, launched in mid-March, would feature extra content to the battle or to see if it was polished at all, and were overjoyed to see exactly that, alongside color corrections, more motion, and altered color palette.

The Film's Potential

But the Blu-ray can only improve what has already been presented in the original airing, whereas the film has the potential to properly present the moment with further changes and completely new animated sequences.

A Crowning Achievement

As it stands, these pair of installments represent the pinnacle of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be handled with care by Mappa, especially considering the issues they underwent at the time. It's captured the interest of anime fans all over the planet, and the Culling Games storyline is one of the most anticipated anime arcs of the following year. If Mappa wants to kick off the year perfectly, showcase the series' best moment once again in cinemas with the best interpretation we've witnessed to date.
