New York City Mayor Eric Adams Will Support Andrew Cuomo in New York City Mayor's Election

New York City Mayor Mayor Adams revealed his plan to endorse Andrew Cuomo in the forthcoming mayoral race, despite months of public tension between the two Democratic figures.

A Surprising Reversal After Previous Accusations

Just last month, Adams had lashed out at the former governor, describing him as a “snake and a untruthful person” and accusing him of having “a history of pushing Black candidates out of races.” However, in a new development, Adams changed his position, revealing he now plans to appear with the former governor in areas where he holds significant backing.

“It's essential to energize the Black and brown communities that have suffered from urban displacement on how important this election is,” the mayor stated.

He added, “They have watched their housing costs rise in terms of neighborhood changes and they have been disregarded in those areas, and I’m going to go to those communities and speak one on one with community leaders and organizations and I will appear with the former governor in those neighborhoods and get them motivated.”

Race Dynamics and Recent Events

The mayoral contest has so far been dominated by the contest between Cuomo and democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, whose rise in the polls has drawn interest globally and represented aspirations for a rejuvenated progressive wing of the Democratic party.

In a latest candidate forum, both the democratic socialist and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa declared they would refuse the mayor's support if extended.

Earlier this year, Adams had launched his bid for another term as an independent after facing federal corruption charges which were later thrown out in return for Adams’s cooperation with government enforcement actions across the city.

During a unrelated press conference on Thursday, Adams answered reporters asking about the endorsement plan by stating, “Andrew and I will appear together this evening.”

This development followed a day after Adams and Cuomo were spotted attending a game side-by-side at the New York Knicks’ first game at Madison Square Garden, which took place right after a contentious mayoral debate.
