Outrage Erupts as Trump's Post on Director Rob Reiner Ignites Widespread Criticism

Individuals from both sides of the political divide and the Hollywood industry are uniting to condemn former President Donald Trump for his comments following the shocking deaths of esteemed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Online Post

Following the discovery of the couple dead at their Los Angeles home, Trump took to his platform to label the late director as "tortured and struggling". In a post, he asserted Reiner's death was "because of the hostility he provoked others through his massive, unyielding, and untreatable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments quickly shifted to self-praise, contrasting Reiner's alleged "raging obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Police Update and Detention

Authorities have since announced the detention of the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick, on suspicion of homicide in relation to the case. Reports indicate his bond was set at a substantial amount.

A Torrent of Condemnation from Public Figures

The response to Trump's post was immediate and scathing.

“What a vile and vile comment,” said actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a friend, also condemned the statements. She pointed to prior comments from Trump regarding political violence, demanding, "Have you no shame? Can you get any lower?"

The state of California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly wrote, "This is a sick man."

Mirroring this view, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "He is a contemptible piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "He's just crossed a line. Now saying the Reiners brought on their own demise because they didn’t support him. So sick."

Criticism from Within Party

A number of Republican elected officials also expressed disapproval.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about political feuds or rivals". She also mentioned challenges with addiction and psychological well-being within families.

Fellow Republican representative, Thomas Massie, labeled Trump's discourse "unacceptable and disgraceful" given the nature of the deaths. He openly challenged others in his political party to justify the statements.

Reiner's History and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a outspoken detractor of Donald Trump. In a past conversation, he stated Trump was "mentally unfit" for the office. He had also warned about the dangers of autocracy if Trump be reelected to power.

"There is autocracy on the rise around the world," Reiner said. "Should the United States fall, there’s a danger that democracy collapse around the world."

Despite his strong opposition, Reiner had previously shown "complete revulsion" and denounced violence for political ends unequivocally following the killing of another individual.

An Ironic Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of historical irony, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the artist who shot the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously recounted the anecdote of the photo shoot, noting Trump's request for "a specific hair product" as being photographed on a skyscraper with a view of Central Park.
