At a White House policy meeting, Kristi Noem this week likened the loose network of antifascist activists to MS-13, the Gaza-based organization, the Iran-backed group and ISIS, describing the loosely affiliated street activists “equally threatening” as officially recognized terror groups.

“They are just as sophisticated as MS-13, as TDA [Tren de Aragua], as the Islamic State, as Hezbollah, as the Palestinian faction, each one of these, they are just as dangerous,” the secretary stated. “Their goal is to dismantle our society, similar to other extremist groups we’ve dealt with for decades.”

The roundtable included conservative online reporters such as several prominent commentators and others who report on antifa protests.

Several organizations Noem cited – the Palestinian, Lebanese, and jihadist factions – are officially classified as terror groups that control territory, run armed branches, maintain command structures and have carried out large-scale assaults such as bombings, kidnappings and targeted killings.

Specialists in radical movements have long described antifa, by contrast, as having no centralized leadership, official membership or structured hierarchy, and it has generally been described by federal law enforcement as a loose network of campaigners who engage in protest activity, some of which has included property destruction and street violence.

The roundtable comes after an executive order signed last month designating anti-fascist activists as a “domestic terrorist organization”.

Days before the announcement, Joe Biggs who was convicted and then pardoned for his actions during the Capitol events posted on X: “Who is prepared to pursue anti-fascist activists? Because I know a few guys.”
