The President Welcomes Families of Attacked Military Soldiers to the White House
President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both members of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president told reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Attendees assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Measures and Government Revisions
Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The incident prompted the government to suspend refugee claims and cease granting entry permits to possessors of travel documents.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader the governor stated on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed the program that she planned to meet with the family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with distinction, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey addressed the audience at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
