The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
